Call for Papers : ASLI Conference 2015
The 18th Atmospheric Science Librarians International Conference will be held January 7th-9th in Phoenix, Arizona as part of the 95th American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting. Preliminary programs, registration, hotel, and general information will be posted on the AMS Web site (http://www.ametsoc.org/meet/annual/) in late-September 2014.
“Fulfilling the Vision of Weather, Water, and Climate Information for Every Need, Time, and Place,” this year’s theme, is the goal of all librarians and information professionals. Each day we see needs for a broad scope of weather related information. What should be our vision for meeting these needs? Has this changed since ASLI began?
One of the challenges AMS puts forth this year is: collaborate and innovate to develop – and ultimately deliver – actionable, user-specific weather, water, and climate information across all spatial and temporal scales in support of our nation’s safety, health, and prosperity. ASLI seeks papers that will address how we do this in challenging times with challenging budgets. We also want to explore the role of our own professional group in these times.
Please consider a submission that will describe your vision, collaborations, challenges, and insights into the work you do for the people you serve. On Thursday January 8th, ASLI will again sponsor a Joint Session with the AMS Board on Data Stewardship. Papers that describe innovative technological advances, curation and preservation of data, and solutions that help us understand and serve data needs in the field are most welcome.
Finally, remember ASLI’s popular session on “Technology Tools and Tips.” Here we invite anyone trying a new technology or using something older in a novel way to participate in a “lightning round” of 5 minute talks. Technology failures and lessons learned are especially welcome, as are proposals from students using innovative strategies around information.
Submissions should include full contact information, title, and brief abstract of less than 250 words. Submission deadline is August 1st, 2014.
